Multiplicity and Renewal of Interpretations in Some Verses of the Holy Qur’an

Abstract

   This research explores the concept of multiple readings as a contemplative and semantic approach to the Qur’anic text, distinct from the technical science of canonical recitations. It argues that the Qur’anic verse may legitimately yield two or more layers of meaning without departing from the sacred text. The research is grounded in the idea that the Qur’an is rich in explicit and implicit meanings, and that elements such as pause marks, linguistic structure, syntactic relations, context, and rhetorical density contribute to the expansion of meaning rather than contradiction. Through selected Qur’anic examples, the study demonstrates various patterns of dual or multiple readings, including general and specific meanings, presence and absence, pronoun reference, condensed expressions, and intertextual comparison across verses. The research concludes that multiplicity of reading enhances intellectual and spiritual understanding, reflects the depth and eloquence of the Qur’an, and affirms its enduring relevance across time and place.
